Let's face it: croutons can make a salad a lot tastier. The problem is, they may make it a lot more unhealthy, too! Store-bought croutons are filled with artificial ingredients, refined sugars, and empty calories. So, even though you think you're making a responsible meal choice, the opposite may be true.

Still, if you love putting croutons in your salad, Great Harvest in Butte will give you a recipe so you can make your own healthier version!

How to Make Croutons

Get Quality Ingredients

  • Whole grain bread
  • Olive oil
  • Seasoning (parmesan, garlic, herbs, or other ingredient of your liking)

Start Preparing

There are some things you can do right away to get them ready for when you use them later. For example, you can preheat the oven at 350F and grease the baking sheet with olive oil.

Get the Bread Ready

Now, it's time to get down to business. To prepare your bread, you'll need to cut it into about 1 inch squares. Then, season it. This depends on your taste, so go for it as much as you want.

Bake 'Til Golden!

Place the bread nicely in the baking sheet, and stick it in the oven for 5 minutes or until you notice a golden color in the bread. Then, flip the croutons over and wait another 5 minutes for the other side!
